Did You Know: Aircraft With Folding Wings Is Almost Here!

If you are interested in aviation, you might have heard about the largest passenger aircraft in the world – Airbus A380. You might also know about the fierce competition between two giant commercial aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus competing in the commercial aviation industry since the 1980s.

The latest response of Boeing to the largest commercial aircraft of Airbus was simply insane – Boeing is already manufacturing its 777X aircraft which will be the largest twin-engine jet out there. Once completed, the 777X is to have the widest wingspan of any aircraft: almost 72 meters.

You may ask, what are the advantages of those giant wings? The prolonged wings will give the aircraft extra lift and help to save more fuel. But how can such aircraft fit through regular airport gates? The answer is simply amazing – the aircraft will have foldable wing-tips and when folded up, the aircraft 777-9X can fly to many airports around the world served by the Boeing 777, 787 series or the Airbus A330. With its wing tips folded, the 777X can reduce its wingspan from 72 to 65 meters, practically the width of the current long-range versions, the 777-200LR, and 777-300ER.

Emirates, which also owns the world’s largest fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft, will be the first airline to fly new Boeing 777X aircraft, which is expected to enter the service in 2020.
